Cake decorating isn’t my thing

My daughter is having her 13th birthday party today. She is an avid reader and asked for a cake that looks like a book. While I am a decent baker, cake decorating makes me pull my hair out.  The cake in the video is amazing. I am going to work on my skills.

The b-day party is a sleep over with six teenagers and two 10 year-olds.  Let you know if I survive.

Me: Did you clean your room?
Daughter: Yes.
Me: All of it? Even the top of your nightstand?
Daughter: Yes. It is all done. You will be happy.
My daughter seems to not have inherited any sort of neatness gene. I have tried several approaches including the most recent; leaving it alone until she can’t stand it or can’t find her bed. Given the look of her room, she may be on to me and  determined to win this round.  I might be in trouble.

Maybe it is a gender thing?

Me: Is there a reason why this pot is sitting in the sink?

Husband: You told me three days ago you would handle it.

I do all the cooking, shopping, scheduling and transportation engineering in our home. In my spare time, I am a working professional with a side job in elementary and middle school homework. Most days I am a dog walker, cat litter box cleaner and small rodent feeder.  My children include the two I had a say in and the one I married. This blog will highlight my daily struggles - both good and bad - with my life at the edge of the cliff. Please add to the conversation if you have time.
